Before we tell you what Jackson Hole is, let us tell you what it isn’t. Jackson Hole, despite its name, is not a hole at all. It’s charming northwestern Wyoming town nestled in a lovely valley between the magnificent Teton mountain range to the west and the Gros Ventre wilderness area to the east.

The first non-native visitors to visit the region found their way into the valley via the steep slopes at the north end; that’s probably where the misnomer came from.

What to do in Jackson Hole

The fur trappers that once populated this magnificently beautiful part of the west are gone now. Today Jackson Hole offers adventure, relaxation and first-class accommodation to visitors who seek an exceptional experience without the crush of tourists that are typical to other ski resort towns in the American west.

In the summertime, Jackson Hole offers an exceptional home base for excursions to nearby Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. The scenery in Wyoming is beyond compare, providing inspiration to artists of all sorts. During winter, savvy snowbirds ski, schuss and snowboard down immaculately groomed, powdery ski runs.

Jackson Hole may not yet have the cachet of other ski resort towns like Vail, Telluride, and Aspen, but that’s part of what make it such a refreshing getaway. Maybe that’s why notable figures including Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, investment expert Charles Schwab and golf great Tiger Woods maintain homes in the area.
