Greek Island Dream Destination

Mykonos offers you sand, sunshine, ouzo, and windmills! Located in the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is a dream destination, and many cruise ships dock in port here. If you don’t come by cruise ship you can come by ferry or plane from Athens. The slow ferry takes most of the day. High speed ferries cut the time in half, while planes take under an hour. During your visit you can get a taste of Greek culture (both modern and ancient) while enjoying luxurious modern hotels, high-end shopping and exciting nightclubs.

The main town is a maze of narrow streets, deliberately confusing to deter pirates, lined with whitewashed homes and churches (and boutiques). In the western side of town you’ll find Little Venice where buildings border the sea; having a drink here while watching the blue water turn gold at sunset is almost mandatory. There are also windmills in the western part of the town, leftover from when they ground local wheat; whitewashed in the Greek style they look nothing like the windmills in Holland. A photogenic Byzantine church, Panagia Paraportiani, is also on the western side of town.

You might encounter the town’s mascot, Petros the Pelican, almost anywhere in town or along the waterfront. Mykonos is on its second or third generation Petros now! He’s often seen along the dock where you can get a boat to the nearby “sacred island” of Delos, a world heritage archeological site with ancient buildings and mosaics. The archeological museum in town has some items from Delos also.

Beaches line the island edges, almost all with beach chairs, umbrellas, and restaurants. Vendors roam up and down many beaches selling additional items.
Mykonos and Kivotos Clubhotel
Of course, if you stay at a hotel with a beach, all of that is at your doorstep. Kivotos Clubhotel on Mykonos’s Ornos Bay has a beach with vistas of Aegean blue and green. Condé Nast Traveller included the hotel on its list of the 10 best beach hotels in Europe. The 5-star hotel has rooms and suites; most come with views of the ocean. For the ultimate in deluxe comfort and privacy, you can stay in their waterfront villa with its own private pool. The 3-story villa has private access to the hotel’s spa, but also has its own mini gym, sauna, and Jacuzzi.

If you use the spa, you can enjoy treatments including Ayurveda, Hammam, and Thai Massage, among other therapies. You can also keep fit with the yoga and Pilates classes.

Dining at the hotel is seaside Mediterranean fusion, featuring fresh, locally caught fish. For lunch dine al fresco at poolside. One day each week octopus dries around the pool for the Fresh Fish barbecue. The dinner restaurant is candlelit, overlooking the bay. There are also options for private dining, whether a group dinner party, a private dinner for two on the beach, or dinner on the hotel’s private yacht (either docked or at sea). If a romantic dinner leads to thoughts of marriage, you can make use of the hotel’s chapel for your wedding.

If you need to get into Mykonos Town, it’s less than 2 miles away. The hotel can help arrange transportation services. To get to Mykonos and Kivotos Clubhotel, contact Concierge Travel Design for all the help needed to make your Greek Island dream trip happen.

7 Star Luxury Hotel in Dubai

Considered ‘The World’s Only 7-Star Hotel’, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai is the third tallest luxury hotel in the world. The hotel is situated on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland via private curving bridge. The structure is designed in shape to mimic the sail of a ship. The island on which the Burj Al Arab is located is reclaimed land 280 meters offshore of the beach of the former Dubai Chicago Beach Hotel. The origins of the locale’s name lie in the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company which previously welded giant oil tankers on the site. The design of the Burj Al Arab is credited to architect Tom Wright of WKK Architects. Construction of the island began in 1994. Wright said the client wanted a building that would become an iconic statement for Dubai. The hotel building opened in 1999.
Luxury Hotel in Dubai
Some of the hotel’s features required complex engineering feats to be achieved. To secure a foundation on the artificial island on the which the building rests, the builders drove 230 concrete piles into the sand, each about 130 feet long. A ground/surface layer of rocks was created by engineers, circled with a concrete honeycomb pattern, serving to protect the foundation from the effects of erosion. While it took three years for the land to be reclaimed for the sea, it took fewer than three years for the building to be constructed. The building contains over 9,000 tons of steel and 92,000 cu. yards of concrete. Inside the building, there is an atrium that is 590 ft. tall.

The Jumeirah Group, a Dubai-based international luxury hotel chain that is part of Dubai Holding, manages the hotel. The Jumeirah Group’s portfolio have won numerous awards for travel and tourism. The Burj Al Arab holds 28 double-story floors, accommodating 202 bedroom suites. The suites range in size area from 1,820 sq. ft. to 8,400 sq. ft. Suites feature designs that capture a juxtaposition of east and west. Great influence is shown through white columns and mosaic tile patterns accent bathrooms. The Royal Suite, which is billed at $18,716 per night, is listed at twelfth on CNN Go’s list of the World’s 15 Most Expensive Hotel Suites, compiled in 2012. The hotel is very popular with the Chinese market, which accounted for 25 percent of all bookings at the Burj Al Arab in 2011 and 2012.

Restaurants are another grand feature of the Burj Al Arab hotel. There is Al Muntaha (Arabic for “ultimate”), which is located 600 ft. above the Persian Gulf, offering a great view of Dubai. A full cantilever that extends 89 ft. from either side of the mast supports the restaurant, and it is accessed to a panoramic elevator. Al Mahara (Arabic for “Oyster”) is accessed through a simulated submarine voyage, featuring a large seawater aquarium, holding approximately 260,000 gallons of water. The wall of the tank is made of acrylic glass, 7.1 inches thick and built to withstand the water pressure.
